Business experience. Technical judgement.
I help business owners and leadership teams understand where AI could be useful and how to put it into practice. My advice draws on more than 30 years as an engineer, CTO, Technical Director, CEO, and business founder.
I work hands-on with AI assistants and agents in my own projects, including server and network management and creative collaboration. My client work includes an AI-assisted mine-planning prototype, accepted as a starting point and pending validation against real-world site data.
That combination matters when a business is considering AI: understanding what the technology can do is part of the job. The rest is working out whether it helps, what it takes to introduce it, and how people will use and check it.
In 2013 I started an e-commerce business called SJW Gems that let me combine my love for technology with my interest in gemstones, built to give me the freedom to travel and work from anywhere. I also serve as a council member for GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group), providing strategic insights and consulting in telecommunications, Internet, and technology to organizations worldwide.
Beyond work, I've volunteered as an SME mentor, served as Treasurer for Friends of the Western Ground Parrot, and earned a Graduate Gemologist certification from the Gemological Institute of America. I also make music with AI collaborators — another way of exploring what these tools can do.
