This website is onet.com.au, the personal and consulting site of Steve Waddington, hosted on a private server in Australia.
This is a static website with no public user accounts or comments. If you allow analytics, we use self-hosted Matomo and Google Analytics to measure page views, visits, approximate location, traffic sources, devices and engagement. Matomo also records clicks on email and telephone links; it does not collect the contents of your email or call, or prove that an enquiry was completed. We do not use analytics for advertising or track you across unrelated websites.
Like almost every website, the web server keeps standard access logs, which record the IP address of visitors, the pages requested, and the browser type. These logs are used only for security and troubleshooting, stay on the server, and are deleted automatically on rotation after about two weeks.
Matomo analytics data stays on our private server in Australia. Matomo looks up approximate country, region and city using a local geolocation database, then masks part of your IP address before storing it. Location is approximate, not your street address. IP Geolocation by DB-IP.
When you allow analytics, first-party cookies help recognise a returning browser; they do not identify you by name or reliably connect different devices. Google Analytics receives analytics information directly and processes it under Google's privacy policy; that information may be processed outside Australia. Google advertising storage and advertising personalisation are disabled.
Neither analytics system is loaded until you choose Allow analytics. Choosing No thanks, or sending a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, prevents this site's analytics tracking. You can change your choice on the cookie policy page. Browser blocking and visitor choices mean analytics totals do not include every visit.
You can contact me directly by email or phone. I use the contact details and information you provide to respond to your enquiry. The website does not collect your message through a contact form.
Pages load the IBM Plex typefaces from Google Fonts. Your browser requests those font files directly from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address as part of serving the files, as described in Google's own privacy policy.
Blog posts may include embedded content (for example videos or images hosted elsewhere). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website: those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.
Matomo retains detailed visitor records for 180 days, then automatically deletes them; aggregate statistical reports are retained for trend comparisons. Protected, rotating backups may retain recent copies for a further seven daily backup generations. Google Analytics has separate retention settings in the existing Google account. Server logs are short-lived as described above. Email you choose to send is retained as needed to handle your enquiry and our correspondence.
